Our Mission

The West Side Rowing Club is a non-profit organization run by volunteers whose purpose is the advancement of the physical, mental, and moral well being of the youth of the City of Buffalo, New York and surrounding communities by education, training, instruction, and participation in the art of rowing and other athletic pursuits.

Winter Training NOTICE

A reminder to all coaches, athletes and parents that the West Side Rowing Club will be closed for all practices if the Buffalo Public Schools close or cancel after school activities. "Closing Central" on Channel 2 and the "West Side Guy" Facebook page will also be updated if the rowing club is closed due to weather.

Fall Rowing Update

The fall season is in full swing at the West Side Rowing Club! Over 400 atheltes have been training here since early September and are now begining to race throughout the North-east! Early season races found West Side crews competing at the Fairport "Lift Bridge Regatta" and the "Five Bridges Fall Classic" in Welland, Ontario. Most recently West Side sent two trailers to Rochester to compete in the 2009 Head of the Genesee. Highlight finishes were turned in at the Head of the Genesee by the West Side Juniors (1st in the High School Women's 8, 1st in the Women's Open 4+), St. Joe's C.I. (1st in the High School Men's 8), Canisius H.S. (1st in the High School Men's 4+, 2nd in the High School Men's 8, & 1st in the High School Men's Novice 8), Holy Angels (2nd in the High School Women's 4+) and the Masters Men (2nd in the Masters Men 4+).

On October 16th, West Side will be shipping off to Boston to compete in the 45th Annual Head of the Charles Regatta. West Side crews will be competing in the Youth Women's 4+, Youth Men's 4+, Youth Women's 8 and the Men's Championship Lightweight 1x. Canisius H.S. will be competing in the Youth Men's 4+ and the Youth Men's 8 events and the University of Buffalo Men's program will have an Alumni 8 racing on Saturday at the regatta.

After the Head of the Charles, West Side crews will travel to the Head of the Fish in Saratoga Springs, NY (October 24-25) and then end the fall season in Buffalo by hosting the Hogan-Fries Novice Regatta and the Head of the Niagara on October 31st.

Winter Training at West Side

The West Side Rowing Club will be offering winter training programs that will be open to all West Side members. The Winter Training program will provide all members with the opportunity to maintain and improve their rowing fitness off the water during the winter months. Witner training programs will include a wide range of activities including weight lifting, erging, tank work and circut training.

Traning sessions will be available in three sessions begining on November 16th. The training sessions will be held:

Session I: Monday through Friday, 5:30am - 7:30am and Saturday from 7 - 9am.

Session II: Monday through Friday, 4:00pm - 6:00pm and Saturday from 9 - 11am.

Session III: Monday through Friday, 6:00pm - 8:00pm and Saturday from 11am - 1pm.

Registration for Winter Training will open on Monday October 19th. Anyone interested in joining can do so via Regatta Central. Just click on the "Clubs" tab and scroll down to the West Side logo to sign up. Registration will be first come, first served and space is limited!
